This time of year I’m typically breaking down rods, cleaning and lubing reels, inspecting the condition of lines and generally getting ready for winter fly tying. I’ll get out occasionally, and have been focusing on local small streams.
For those of you that tie, here are some resources, including links to my favorite flies:
A Few of My Favorite Dry Flies
I also follow @demuth_flyfishing, @svenddiesel and others on Instagram.
On YouTube, I’d suggest Jim Misiura, Tightlinevideo, FlyFish Food, and InTheRiffle.
YouTube has also become a destination for great travel content on fly fishing adventures. Over the past few months I’ve started to follow a couple of channels that I’d like to share. They may inspire your bucket list.
WildFly Productions/Short Bus Diaries/BluelineCo – As the latest installment starts off, “Four average dudes going to really cool places.” I could not agree more. They converted a school bus into a camper, tying station and mobile production studio, then hooked up a trailer and headed west. Beautiful destinations, big fish and great storytelling.
Drew LookNFishy – Who hasn’t thought about loading up a truck camper and heading west for 2 months to fish the backcountry in NM, CO, ID and WY? Drew did, and made a series of videos that show some of the spectacular streams, locations and fish that can be found if you’re willing to go off the beaten path.
I’m sure there are other stories out there, but if you’re looking for some good content and a little inspiration (combined with a little envy), these two will do the trick.
Hope you’re getting in a few casts before the season ends. Thanks for continuing to follow us. We wish you and yours a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. Enjoy!
