Product Review : Greenbug For People Insect Repellent
I recently won a contest on the Outdoor Blogger Network. The prize was a bottle of Greenbug For People, an all natural insect repellant. It arrived in the mail on Saturday, about the same time that I was leaving for an afternoon fishing trip on a local river. I decided to test it out.
Due to the recent hurricanes that have hit New Jersey, we still have a lot of standing water, and as a result, the mosquitoes have been active these past few weeks. I’ve cut short my last two fishing trips because I got tired of getting bitten, even though I applied bug spray prior to going out.
This afternoon was no different. I arrived at the river to find a healthy swarm of mosqutios waiting. I broke out the Greenbug and sprayed my head and shoulders. I also offered it to my fishing partner to test as well.
One of the first things that we both noticed is that the spray goes on so light that you hardly realize that you’re putting it on. The faint smell of cedar is the only proof that it had been applied. My friend joked that we “smelled like closets” but I found it preferable to some of the stronger scents of other insect repellents.
We fished for about 3 hours in a wooded area where mosquitoes were visible and I’m happy to say that Greenbug did a good job of keeping the bugs away. I did reapply once after 2 hours, but we were in an area of heavy mosquitoes.
The not-so-secret to Greenbug is that it uses cedar, a natural insect repellent. Here are a few of its benefits:
- All natural, environmentally safe, Deet-free
- While it is deadly to pests, it is harmless to pets and humans
- Masks the human scent, which is important to hunters
- Safe enough to be used around food per the FDA
Greenbug also makes sprays for pets, and has other indoor and outdoor products available on its site.
I’ll be keeping this bottle in the car for the next fishing trip. Enjoy!
