We’re now coming to the time of the year when ice becomes a serious consideration, impacting when, where and how we fish.
Yesterday was the first time this year that I’ve had to deal with it. There have been a few recent leaf catching encounters, but on this trip to a local small stream my line snagged and stuck to a sheet of ice. I carefully reeled and untangled the leader and fly.

Needless to say, this was a short trip. Some of the runs were partially covered by thin translucent sheets. And while the fishing slows, the stream takes on a peaceful appearance, allowing my thoughts to wander to the possibilities of spring.

Here’s to passing the Winter’s Solstice and looking forward to the longer and warmer days of 2014. Enjoy!
