The latest Angling Trade is here. While it is named the “2011 Show Issue” because it covers the upcoming IFTD show, there are some good articles, including the opportunity that golfers represent to fly fishing, how to tell the world about your fishery through film, and a review of Tom Reed’s Blue Lines: A Fly Fishing Life. Florida Fly Fishing In The 1800’s
Found this neat article in Florida Fly Fishing Magazine entitled Fly-Fishing West Florida, 1886.
It contains some interesting observations, including “an almost total absence of insect pests”, and “a greater variety of fish that will take the fly than in any other section of the Union.”
My favorite is when he refers to largemouth bass as “the trout of the south.”
He also mentions catching catfish on a fly, indicating that roughfishing has been around for a while.
